Sanford-Brown InstituteSanford-Brown Institute offers certificate, diploma, and degree programs in a number of health care related fields. Certificate and Diploma Programs and Courses of StudyAnesthesia Technologist - Associate DegreeThis program, which conforms to the standards set by the American Association of Anesthesia Technicians/Technologists, prepares graduates to assist anesthesiologists in the operating room. Students learn to maintain anesthesia equipment and supplies, and to prepare equipment and patients prior to surgery. Cardiovascular Technology / Non-Invasive Cardiovascular TechnologyThe cardiovascular technology program teaches students to perform non-invasive diagnostic examinations, including EKG, echocardiographic testing, and EKG stress testing. In addition to learning to operate diagnostic equipment, students learn theory and gain clinical experience through an internship program. Graduates of the Cardiovascular Technology program receive a degree in Tampa, and a certificate from the campuses in Atlanta, Iselin, NJ and Dallas. A certificate in Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Technology is awarded in Landover, Garden City, New York City and White Plains. Dental Assistant / Dental Assisting with Expanded FunctionsThese diploma programs prepare students for a variety of positions in the dental office, from chairside assisting to receptionist and front office work. Students learn dental terminology, anatomy and pathology, as they learn to assist the dentist in the lab and with dental procedures, including taking X rays. The Dental Assistant program is offered in Monroeville and Trevose. The Expanded Functions program is offered in Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa. Students are taught the theory of sonographic physics, gray scale and color flow sonography. They gain hands-on skills in areas including OB/GYN, abdominal sonography, and small parts sonography. Students participate in an internship program as part of their hands-on education. Graduates of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program earn a degree in the Jacksonville, Pittsburgh and Tampa locations, a certificate from the Atlanta, Dallas, TX, Iselin NJ, New York City and White Plains campuses. Health Care Administration - Long Term CareThis 18 month Associate degree program prepares the graduate for a position in the long term care field. Specialized courses include geriatric psychology, medical ethics, and death and dying. Students also receive a broad general education essential for developing personal communications skills. Massage TherapyStudents learn almost two dozen Massage Therapy techniques and related modalities with hands-on practice. In addition, the programs provide an education in business skills for those who plan to open their own Massage Therapy clinics. This program is offered in Ft. Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Monroeville, Pittsburgh and Tampa. The Atlanta campus offers a certificate in Advanced Massage Therapy. Medical AssistantThe Medical Assistant program prepares graduates for medical assisting duties in a physician's office or clinic, including patient preparation, lab procedures, tests, and venipuncture. Students receive classroom education in medical administrative and clinical skills and gain practical clinical and lab experience through an externship. Medical Coding and Billing SpecialistNew procedures required by Federal legislation and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act have made the preparation, security and management of patient health information a critical part of health care operations today. The Medical Coding and Billing specialist program prepares graduates for positions in health information management. Students learn the proper procedures for preparing and coding medical records for insurance reimbursement, and the requirements for records maintenance and retention. The Medical Coding and Billing Specialist Certificate or Diploma is offered at the all campuses except Melville. Respiratory Therapy Associate DegreeThis 22 month program includes nine terms of classroom and clinical instruction. Students take courses in anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, in addition to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with respiratory illnesses. Surgical TechnologyPrepare for a career as an operating room technician with an education in the theory and practice of surgical technology. With a combination of classroom and hands on experience, students learn to prepare patients for surgery, sterilize and prepare equipment for operating room use, and assist with tasks during surgery. Students can choose between daytime and evening class schedules, and participate in a full time internship program prior to graduation.
