Kaplan College

Kaplan College provides career-oriented education and personal skills development. The school offers real-world programs that are designed to meet the needs of students and employers in the surrounding area of each of its campuses, which are located in Arizona, California, Colorado, Indiana, Maryland, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Each campus is accredited by one of several regional or national accrediting agencies approved by the US Deoartment of Education. The school offers extensive career planning and placement services through its Placement Office.

Degree and Certificate Programs and Courses of Study

Because the school tailors its programs to meet local requirements and student needs, exact courses and the degree, certificate, or diploma granted will vary by campus, and not every program is offered at every location.

Dental Assistant

This program includes training in the clinical and lab aspects of dental assisting, along with front office duties. Students may learn skills including four-handed dentistry, taking X-Rays, patient care, and taking dental impressions.

Health Information Management

As the health care industry becomes more computerized, the need for trained individuals familiar with computers and the recordkeeping and reporting requirements of medical facilities continues to grow. The Associate degree in Health Information Management prepares graduates for positions in this important field.

Students learn how to compile and report data concerning patient care and insurance issues, including medical coding and abstracting. They learn to maintain and report on other data used in facility planning, marketing, and research. The program also covers supervisory responsibilities, and the legal issues surrounding patient data reporting. This program is offered at the Hagerstown campus.

Healthcare and Rehab Technician

This program provides training in the skills required to become a nurse assistant or a rehabilitation technician. Coursework includes training in medical terminology, phlebotomy, vital signs, and charting. Students learn the principles of home health care for different types of patients and illnesses. They are exposed to the principles of rehabilitative therapy, including ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and therapeutic exercise. Offered at the North County San Diego campus.

Massage Therapy

As a member of the American Massage Therapy Association, the college offers a 36 week Massage therapy certificate or diploma that prepares graduates for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work exam. Students learn massage techniques and systemic pathologies for many of the body's systems. The program also includes career development training. Offered at Indianapolis, North County San Diego, Palm Springs, and Riverside campuses.

Medical Administrative and Insurance Specialist

Students learn the front office skills necessary for employment at a medical office or clinic. They learn the communications skills and medical knowledge required to interact with patients and doctors, how to handle insurance coding and billing, computer skills, and bookkeeping and accounting skills. Offered at the North County and Palm Springs campuses.

Medical Assistant and Medical Secretary/Assistant

The Medical Assistant program prepares the graduate for positions assisting physicians and other medical personnel in clinics, hospitals, and other health care facilities. The programs emphasize laboratory and clinical skills, including performing laboratory tests, charting, taking patient vital signs, and assisting in examinations and minor surgeries. The program may include an internship.

The Medical Secretary/Assistant Associate degree offered at Hagerstown is a seven quarter program that includes the medical assistant training in the certificate program, and adds additional coursework that covers front-office medical secretarial procedures.

Medical Billing/Coding

Learn about insurance plan reimbursement and disease and treatment classification for reimbursement in this five quarter certificate program. The program teaches the operation of computerized billing systems, and how to properly submit insurance claims using the HCFA claim form. Students learn about several insurance plans, and the applicable regulations used in patient referral.

Medical Insurance Coder

Prepare for the Certified Medical Coder exam with this diploma program that teaches how to process medical insurance claims. You'll learn the ICD and CPT codes used in insurance processing, and how to process claims for HMOs and PPOs. The program includes training in computer skills, medical terminology, and medical management skills such as bookkeeping, correspondence, and time management. Offered at the Vista campus.

Medical Office Specialist

This eight month program provides training in the procedures used in medical offices. Students learn medical terminology, medical ethics, billing and collections, medical recordkeeping, and bookkeeping procedures. Graduates may work in outpatient clinics, insurance companies, hospitals, or dental offices.

Medical Receptionist / Transcriptionist

Learn the secretarial and patient relations skills required for a front office position as a medical receptionist. This program teaches the communications, medical and business skills used in physician's offices, clinics, hospitals, and other health care organizations. Students also develop the skills needed to accurately transcribe patient histories, operating room narratives, and other information dictated by physicians. Students learn medical terminology and procedures so that they can accurately interpret dictated notes.

Nursing

Students learn patient care and pathophysiology skills in this Associate degree program which offers both classroom and clinical experience. The program also covers patient education, client assessment, and a general studies and social studies program. Offered at the San Diego campus.

Phlebotomist

Phlebotomists draw blood intravenously for medical testing. The phlebotomist program teaches you the skills you need to safely and accurately perform phlebotomies, and accurately enter patient and result data into the computer. In addition to hands-on training, students learn medical terminology and procedures, as well as the legal knowledge required to ensure patient confidentiality. The program includes an internship, and is offered at the Hagerstown campus.

Vocational Nursing

Learn the principles of direct patient care in this comprehensive training program. Coursework includes anatomy and physiology, rehabilitation and patient teaching, clinical diagnostics, and disease symptoms. Graduates are prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-VN) for licensure as a Vocational Nurse. Program is offered at the Vista and San Diego campuses.
