Programs and Courses of StudyMedical AssistantThis program prepares the graduate for an entry level position as a medical assistant. The program also includes an introduction to computers and basic accounting, and concludes with an externship. Graduates receive a certificate or diploma, depending on the campus. Medical Assisting Management and Medical Assisting Management with Patient Care ServicesThis fifteen month program focuses on the management skills used in a medical office or clinic. Courses cover management, clinical, communications and administrative functions, including business communications, pharmacology, college math, accounting, and medical transcription. Graduates can sit for the limited scope radiology examination, and are prepared for the Certified Medical Assistant designation. By adding patient care services instruction to the Medical Assisting Management curriculum, graduates are better prepared to take on positions in hospitals, nursing homes, and home health care facilities. The 18 month program includes courses in gerontology, restorative care, and patient care and safety. The programs include an internship, and is only offered at the ICM - Pittsburgh campus. Medical Office Administration / Medical Office SpecialistThe Medical Office Specialist program, offered at the Cleveland, Dearborn and Detroit campuses, teaches verbal and written communications skills, along with the administrative and secretarial procedures used in a doctor's office, clinic, or hospital. Computer skills, patient billing, and records management are among the subjects presented. The medical office administration option of the school's secretarial science program is offered at the ICM - Pittsburgh campus, and provides the student with complete secretarial training, combined with training on the procedures and systems used in a medical office. This Associate degree program teaches the most frequently used office applications, introduces the student to written and oral communications skills, and provides training in management skills.
