Golden Gate University

Golden Gate University began offering degree programs in 1901, and has grown to become one of the largest private colleges in California. It caters both to full-time and part time students with its Bachelor and Master's degree programs. The average class size is 14 students, with about 15% of the student body representing 80 foreign countries. In addition to its main San Francisco campus, the school has locations in Silicon Valley, the East Bay, Monterey Bay, and Sacramento. Golden Gate University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

The psychology programs are designed by practicing psychologists, and emphasize applied psychology for both the clinical and business worlds. Classes are held throughout the year, and are available in the evenings and on the weekend.

Degree Programs and Courses of Study

Master of Arts in Psychology

The MA in Psychology program is designed for individuals who want to increase their knowledge of psychological theory and practice, either as a step towards gaining a doctoral degree, or in government or business settings where a licensing requirement is not necessary. There are two concentrations available, in Counseling or in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

The Counseling concentration prepares graduates for positions in employee assistance programs, government, or social service agencies. Concentration courses include Psychopathology, Psychological Assessment, and Alternative Methods of Therapeutic Intervention. The Industrial/Organizational Psychology concentration prepares the graduate for positions in private or public organizational settings. It includes courses in Organizational Behavior and Process, Tests and Measurements, and Applied Industrial Psychology.

MA in Psychology with a concentration in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling

The Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling concentration is designed to give the graduate the knowledge and skills to pursue a psychology career in a clinical setting. Courses include Psychological Assessment, Child/Adolescent Psychology, Psychopharmacology, Child Abuse, and Applied Psychological Research. It includes a practicum in counseling psychology, where the student gains face to face experience in a clinical setting.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Prior to admission for graduate programs at Golden Gate University, candidates must have completed an earned Bachelor degree, and posses the skills needed to succeed in their program. The school has a rolling admissions policy, which means you can begin your studies during any of the academic terms.
