Berks Technical Institute

Berks Technical Institute provides specialized education to students in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. The school's degree and diploma programs offer hands-on training in the skills sought after by employers to people who want to advance their current career, or those who are just starting out.

Founded in 1984, Berks Technical Institute has an eight acre campus that includes a learning resource center, medical lab, and two massage therapy clinics. The labs and clinics have equipment similar to what is found in the medical offices and clinics students will work in after graduation.

Programs and Courses of Study

Massage Therapist

Offered as a nine month day program or an 18 month evening program, the Professional Massage Therapist diploma focuses on Swedish massage, with both classroom and hands-on training. Students learn the basics of anatomy and physiology, and receive training on other forms of therapy, including sports massage, Shiatsu, and reflexology. The program is designed to meet the standards of the American Massage Therapy Association.

Medical Assistant Sciences

The Medical Assistant programs provide training in the skills necessary to assist physicians in private practice or clinical settings. Students learn clinical skills, including phlebotomy, EKG and venipuncture. They receive classroom training in pharmacology, anatomy, and physiology. They also learn front office procedures, including insurance billing and bookkeeping.

Graduates of the Associate degree program in Medical Assistant Sciences are prepared to enter one of five specialties, including phlebotomist, health unit coordinator, and medical transcription. The degree program includes an externship at a health care facility.
