Stephanie is a twenty-six year old woman living in Chicago. She's been working on a PhD in psychology for over 5 years. To make ends meet, she works as a bartender at a popular live music venue on the weekends. It's funny to hear her talk about how both occupations are interrelated.
"I worked as a bartender in college, and decided to do the same while earning my psychology degrees. I like to get away from my academic work from time to time, and bartending helps me do that. I also like to keep up with local bands and hear good music. 
Unfortunately, I can't disassociate myself completely from psychology when I'm at the bar. Now and then, on a slow night, some guy will eventually start telling me about his problems after downing a few beers. I can't help but psychoanalyze the poor fellow. These guys usually have similar mental health problems. They're generally lonely, they don't have healthy outlets to express their feelings, and they usually have deep-seeded self esteem issues that keep them from trying to achieve their goals. If I'm in a good mood and they're not too drunk, I'll listen to what they have to say and make some suggestions on how they could work out some of their problems. Some don't want to listen to a female bartender about mental health, but others welcome the help. I think in the long run, this barroom psychology is good training for me."
